We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day. ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce
My own style of painting is called abstraction, perhaps abstract landscape. Over the years, I have had a lot of experience explaining what abstract art is or isn’t. Finally, I intend to use the “opportunity” to create my own handbook on:
Understanding Abstract Art
If any viewers which to contribute by writing their own experiences on:
1. Why do you dislike abstract art?
2. What would you like to know to make the viewing of abstraction more meaningful to you.
I invite you to comment on the 2 questions above for my research.

the thing that is best about abstract art is that it takes the imagination of the viewer to make sense of it *

Thanks for your response.
My China Far East series has 3 levels
1. The representation of a Benevolent Warrior
2. Collage which give the viewer a “scrapbook” experience of association
3. An abstract experience – with some association.
It was an interesting experiment. I personally liked #2 mainly because the collage reminded me of the Chinese trip itself. The warrior was a hit for most viewers. The gallery liked #3 – not too much to associate to, only colours, shapes and lines.
I’ll post a sample of each and you can tell me what you like.
